A decision was made at the annual PIA Washington/Alaska business to keep the PIA Washington/Alaska board of directors as it was in 2012/13. That means Dale Kelley — of Dale Kelley Insurance in Roy, Washington — will remain the association’s president for another year.
The meeting was held in conjunction with the Joint Conference of the PIA Washington/Alaska and the Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of Washington.
Later that evening, Dale Kelley spoke at the annual award’s banquet. He told the membership attending, “Looking back I can tell you that we have officially closed the book on the economic downturn’s dark days. During the recession we lost numbers. We lost staff. It was tough, but a resilient board — and an even more resilient staff — fought through it and we are now “officially” growing again.”
Kelley pointed out in the last year the PIA Western Alliance — of which PIA Washington/Alaska is part — has added three new staff members and have grown from nine to 12. That’s a 30% improvement and means the PIA can now get more work done on your behalf.
“PIA Washington/Alaska is now attracting more members. We’ve added new products and services, we’ve updated the website and made it easier to navigate and more efficient. Our education programs like CIC and CISR continue to be successful. All of this enhances membership,” he said.
While the association faces a bright future, so do independent insurance agents. “Survey after survey after survey shows that people are tired of calling 1-800 SELL ME INSURANCE. They want an advisor and advice they can trust. They want to talk to someone who is an expert in and educated in insurance. They want someone they can entrust their insured lives to. That’s us. That’s you and that’s me.”
He thanked the vendors and sponsors of the PIA and of the joint conference for their support. “Without you we could not do this. Without your involvement financially in this association we could not accomplish our goal of connecting you with the agents and agencies that sell your products.”
And he concluded his address by thanking all who attended. “Your involvement here means you care. Your attendance makes us stronger as an association. It makes us stronger as an industry. And it that involvement, and the passion you have for PIA and for this industry that has inspired me to serve. I only hope that my service has also inspired you to serve,” he said.
