Staying Focused: Battling the Afternoon Drag

Most of us are early risers. Some of us are early risers and also hit the sack rather late. All of us especially as we age face the mid-afternoon blahs. Lots is left to be done and the last thing you want to do is get it done.

 

Here are some ideas to pump up your afternoon and make it more productive.

 

FIRST

Eat a healthy snack. This isnt something laden with sugar. We dont need the roller coaster high of sugar. The goal is to keep sugar levels level all day. You can Google a bunch of ideas as to what will make the perfect mid-afternoon snack.

 

SECOND

Schedule your meetings for afternoon. The same with important deadlines. These keep you focused. Do the easier stuff in the morning. Your body and brain will find it easier to focus and stay focused if what youre doing in the afternoon is critical to the job.

 

THIRD

Go for a walk. Get some fresh air. This gets oxygen flowing and clears the head. The recommended walk length is five to 10-minutes.

 

FOURTH

Stay hydrated. You actually should be doing this all day long. Also, experts say a touch of coffee wont hurt your afternoon either.

 

FIFTH

Do some meditation. Its like a mini-nap. Meditation and slow breathing completely switch off the brain and is a battery recharge.

 

SIXTH

Upbeat music after mediation revs up the engine and gets you going strong.

 

SEVENTH

Breathing and stretching. While the music roars or at least is hearable if youre in a cubicle situation do some breathing and stretching. Twist your torso and head left and right. Curve your back. Then sit up straight and breathe in and out.

 

Do these three times.
