EXPO & PIA Oregon/Idaho Gives Out Awards

Posted By Administration, Tuesday, May 15, 2018

PIA Oregon/Idaho’s annual is history. The 2018 event is the last time EXPO will be held as the association is returning to its annual conference roots. Next year PIA member agents, non-member agents and company personnel will meet at Salishan at Gleneden Beach on the Oregon Coast.

EXPO saw the association elect a new board of directors with Rich Sorem of RGS Insurance in Portland, Oregon assuming the chairmanship. His term is two-years. Like his predecessors, Rich says he will use his skills and ability to continue to build and grow the PIA.

PIA Oregon/Idaho also awarded the annual Agent of the Year to Patrick O’Keefe of Cascade Insurance Center in Bend, Oregon. The Agent of the Year Award is the PIA’s way of saying thank you and recognizing that special individual whose accomplishments exemplify the best qualities an independent insurance agent can possess. That is  integrity, dedication and commitment to the members and goals of the PIA.

The most important service Patrick O’Keefe provides to the agent and company members of the PIA — and the agents and company personnel who don’t belong — is helping protect them from what the government and the Legislature of the state of Oregon want to do to the business and to consumers.

He is an expert on Oregon politics and uses that expertise to educate legislators on how insurance works.

The annual Company Person of the Year award went to Garn Kemp of Capital Premium Finance. This award goes to the company person whose contributions of time, money and expertise not only help the agent members of the association but helps drive their company to support our efforts with our members.

Garn is the National Sales Manager of Capital Premium Financing and travels nationwide taking the company message of honesty and integrity, trust and respect, hard work and discipline, fairness and kindness and — most importantly — excellence and professionalism.

The annual Blinders Award went to John Houston of Griffin Underwriting Services.

The Annual Blinders Award is given to an underwriter or company person who does the opposite of what this award suggests — they take off the blinders and broaden their vision. The broadening of the vision makes it easier for the rest of us to serve our clients.

John’s work on behalf of member agents of the PIA and his openness and ability to find a way to get it done is much appreciated by the PIA Oregon/Idaho.
