The Nation’s Top Writers Broken Down By Category

A couple of weeks ago we did a story generated by PropertyCasualty360.com on the top 100 property-casualty writers. Every year — in combination with the Insurance Information Institute (I.I.I.) — the website’s parent publication National Underwriter analyzes data generated from S&P Global Market Intelligence. 

The publication also analyzes the top writers in these categories:

  Personal auto

  Commercial multi-peril

  Workers’ compensation

  Fire

  D&O

I.I.I. Chief Economist Steven Weisbart’s analysis of the S&P figures from 2017 shows those who were at the top of these lines in 2016 remain at the top. All that changed from 2016 to 2017 is in the Fire category where Munich Re joined the top five. It replaces Assurant who dropped down.

Tokio Marine — $1.750 million

 

Workers' Compensation

 

Travelers — $3.973 million

Hartford Financial — $3.229 million

Berkshire Hathaway — $2.610 million

Liberty Mutual — $1.982 million

State Compensation Insurance Fund — $1.345 million

 

Fire

 

AIG — $1,664,292

Chubb — $787,092

FM Global — $615,119

Liberty Mutual — $594,369

Travelers — $526,426

Munich Re — $396,421

 

D&O Liability
