Welcome to the PIA and the world of insurance Joey Leffel!
Joey is the PIA Western Alliance’s new Director of Marketing. Though she has only been on the job a couple of weeks, Joey says she is already getting “good vibes” from the association and its exceptional staff.
A strong marketing and communications background makes Joey a terrific find for the PIA Western Alliance. “I’ve built a career teaching people how to market” she told Weekly Industry News Editor Gary Wolcott in a short conversation last week. “My forte for the last 25-years has been to help people and businesses — small and large — get noticed. I help put them on the map.”
Joey has developed successful communications plans using digital channels and events as well as advertising and media relationships. Her career map is a who’s-who list of businesses from manufacturing to high technology to movies. Among those benefitting from her expertise are high profile brands like Coca Cola, Microsoft, Dell and Amazon.
Her resume now includes the professional independent agents and insurance companies of the PIA.
Joey sees the task before her as a unique challenge and has high praise for what the PIA Western Alliance staff has done so far. “At the strategic level, the association has a lot of great ideas. So we have — if you’ll pardon the metaphor — our driver’s license, the keys to the car and the car. Now we begin the process of refining our ability to drive,” she said.
This is where her marketing philosophy will be of tremendous benefit to PIA Western Alliance Executive Vice President Clark Sitzes, Vice President of Non-Profit Operations Kim Legato and Vice President of For Profit Operations Sue Smith.
“We always have to be asking ourselves marketing questions. How do we do the best we can with what we’ve got? How do we spend our marketing dollars in the best possible — and most efficient — way? How do we put all this in perspective?” she emphasized.
In the interview with Weekly Industry News, Joey said when making career decisions she relies heavily on instinct. “I have such a good feeling about the people here,” she noted , “It’s a good vibe and I look forward to learning more about insurance and about the PIA.”
Away from work, Joey says she’s a compulsive wanderer. At one time she worked as a professional photographer so her travels often takes her off the proverbial beaten path.
Joey has a Master’s degree in Management from the University of Redlands in Los Angeles, California.
