The insurance industry and Washington Insurance Commissioner Mike Kreidler usually aren’t on speaking terms. Neither side really has much nice to say about the other.
A couple of wildfires in Eastern Washington jn late August got the commissioner to say kind things about the agents and company personnel who responded to those who lost homes and property during the Gray and Oregon Road fires.
“I appreciate the extra effort many insurers are extending to put trained adjusters onsite to begin the claim process,” Kreidler said in a letter and then went on to thank agents and brokers who helped their clients.
“You are demonstrating the very best of our profession,” he wrote.
He then asked agents and company personnel to watch out for restoration contractors who are using deceptive tactics or messaging to persuade fire victims to sign contracts that aren’t in their best interest.
“It is intolerable behavior to take advantage of individuals that have just lost their home,” Kreidler said.
