California — California Files Lawsuit over Insulin Prices: California has joined Kansas, Arkansas, Mississippi, Minnesota and Kentucky in suing the companies that make insulin. Prices — says California Attorney General Rob Bonta — are inflated and too high for people to afford.
He says Eli Lilly, Novo Nordisk, and Sanofi who make insulin, and the firms that manage prescription drug programs, CVS Caremark, Express Scripts and Optum Rx are overcharging people who need the drug to stay alive.
The suit contends these companies are using their power to squash competition and boost profits. It demands that they return millions to those who desperately need insulin.
Bonta cited a 2021 study by RAND Corporation that compared the insulin prices of three dozen countries. It found U.S. prices to be close to 10-times higher that what people in other countries are paying.
