Lots of us travel during the holidays. Mostly it’s to visit family or friends. Some live close to us and we drive. Others are not so close and we fly.
Or we go to Europe.
Allianz Partners took a look at holiday travel and found that more of us are planning on going to Europe over the holidays than last year. The 2023 European Holiday Destination Index finds trips planned to Europe this year is 21% higher than 2022.
Outside of holiday travel, trips planned to Europe are 61% higher than last year.
London, England remains the top choice for holiday travel, and for travel the year round. Paris, France ranks second.
There are huge increases as a destination choice for some cities. Barcelona, Spain saw a 61% increase. Madrid, Spain got a 31% hike. Libson, Portugal is looking at a 47% increase in American travel.
The Czech Republic’s Prague is seeing a 51% rise and now ranks in the top-20 destination choices for the first time since 2019. Geneva, Switzerland is up 12% and is in the top-20 for the first time since 2017.
Allianz Partners spokesman, Daniel Durazo said now that COVID is more or less under control, international travel is now back on the bucket list of a lot of Americans. And, he suggests that you remind the clients that you know are traveling this year during the holidays, or into next year, that travel insurance is critical.
“Travel insurance for international trips should be on everyone’s pre-trip planner to help protect against unexpected covered events as well as medical emergencies while traveling,” Durazo said. “Travel insurance can provide reimbursements for covered unexpected travel mishaps like travel delays, trip cancellations or interruptions, lost baggage or medical emergencies, and 24/7 travel assistance can help with many travel-related problems.”
