CREW is the Cascadia Region Earthquake Workgroup. It wants independent insurance agents that sell homeowners and renters insurance in Western states to participate in a survey on earthquakes and insurance.
It’s a five-minute survey to help CREW learn more about your experiences and opportunities for discussing earthquake insurance and earthquake risk with consumers.
The information you provide will remain anonymous.
CREW says the resulting data will help emergency managers and earthquake preparedness professionals to engage effectively with insurance agents and consumers and to design successful disaster preparedness messaging and public education campaigns.
These are the PIA Western Alliance states where CREW is most interested in obtaining data:
- Oregon
- Washington
- California
- Alaska
- Montana
- Idaho
- Nevada
- Arizona
Other states and territories are:
- CNMI
- Hawaii
- Utah
- Wyoming
CREW says, “Earthquake preparedness and emergency management professionals are continually engaging in public education efforts that encourage the public to prepare not only for an earthquake and its immediate aftermath, but also for recovery afterwards.”
The organization says earthquake preparedness messaging therefore includes mention of financial preparedness.
“Some of this messaging and guidance encourages homeowners and renters to purchase earthquake insurance, and such messages often conclude by advising consumers to speak to an insurance agent,” the CREW website said.
Speaking to an independent insurance agent — CREW says — has been critical to decisions to purchase earthquake insurance. This information came to CREW from a survey done in the New Madrid seismic zone in the central U.S.
The reason behind CREW’s survey is to learn from agents about how to best approach earthquake insurance and earthquake risk with consumers.
