Moving into the New Year — A Message from PIA Western Alliance Executive Vice President Kim Legato

It has been 1 year in leading the Western Alliance as your Executive Vice President, and what a year it has been! If I had to describe it in 1 word it would be resilience.

Working closely with our board of directors, we forged new paths as we looked ahead to strengthen the Western Alliance in the states we serve. We are doing this in several ways and the new year is bringing positive and exciting changes for the Western Alliance – resilient.

Management changes always demand attention to systems and processes. This past year has seen the Western Alliance convert a new website and database management system to better serve our members. There is still room for improvements, so be sure you have your log in credentials so the system recognizes you as a valuable member of the PIA Western Alliance.

If you need assistance with credentials, just email us and we will send you login instructions. If you are a member record holder you have the ability to add and remove your producers to keep your information up to date, register for events and pay outstanding balances through your account at any time.

We plan to add some new features throughout 2024 so be sure to check back for these updates.

In the behind-the-scenes changes, we are pleased to announce that the Western Alliance is growing. The state of Hawaii will soon become an official part of the Western Alliance family.

What does this mean for Hawaii members? It means you have the support of a growing 10-state regional association that is focusing on the overall health of the independent agency system with quality education, products, and services. We are looking forward to expanding opportunities and serving you!

Another new addition is we are reintroducing CPIA back to the Western Alliance beginning April 2024. Many years ago, the Western Alliance offered the CPIA – Certified Professional Insurance Agent designation program for a time. We are pleased to see PIA National has purchased the program to formulate this highly respected into a premier designation for insurance agents.

You can learn more about this designation here. https://bit.ly/47kHrw4

Our CIC and CISR designation programs continue to do well. We will be hosting 3 in person CIC Institutes in 2024 and our CISR courses have increased. Check our event calendar for all our quality CE and Designation offerings. We feature the current month’s classes on our home page and a link to the full year event schedule here:  https://members.piawest.com/events

PIA’s Annual events have always showcased the best of the best in products, services and innovation. For several years we have partnered for joint conferences in Washington and Montana with Big I in those respective states. The decision to part ways was not an easy one as the Big I, too, has found change commonplace.

As the Western Alliance has grown, our objectives will always remain to our commitment to our members. We will continue to do events in Oregon, Washington, and Montana as we look for opportunities to expand our presence in other states we serve. We know we can provide programming that is relevant, informative, and worthwhile spending time with us.

The Oregon Agents Conference will be held in Hood River June 5th – 7. https://www.piawest.com/2024-or-agent-conference/

The Montana Agents conference will be held at the Fairmont Hot Springs Resort August 5 and 6. Our Washington Agents event is still in the planning stages. More information will be active on our website soon under the events tab.

Legislatively, the Western Alliance has two extraordinarily strong lobbyists representing Oregon and Washington. Their hard work and dedication are unparalleled. We share their hard work with you so you can stay abreast of the activity and legislation that affects weekly when in session. We can’t do it without donations, however, so please consider a tax-deductible donation to our WA PAC or OR PAC.

The Western Alliance Board goal in the coming months will be to strengthen our presence for improved legislative representation to other states we serve.

PIA National also does an excellent job of representing the industry. We recently polled our members to ask them what was most important to them. National efforts are a direct response to grassroots concerns.

As we all know too this market has seen many challenges this past year. We hear from agents across the Western Alliance and often we find their situation a bit more unique than the next. It has us asking how can we find solutions to support the agency system through this hard market?

Keeping you informed is one way. Our Weekly Industry News highlights activities around the Western Alliance states and we often site articles we have written about or reference. There is some news that 2024 may bring some relief: https://bit.ly/48loWsM

Yet we know there is more to do. Access to markets is the number one issue to many of our members. We find the uniqueness of what our members are experiencing and the dynamics of this market, demand we continue to look for products and services that are relevant and beneficial to our members.

We will be surveying our members more frequently in the coming year to continue our commitment to understanding what agencies are facing and finding solutions that work.

And as we begin 2024, a note of thanks is in order. We appreciate each and every agency member, Sterling Partner and associate members that believes in what we do throughout the Western Alliance.

Even the companies that aren’t members of the Western Alliance support us in one way or another with sponsorships and donations. It’s because of our collective relevance to strengthen the industry that we will remain resilient for you.

Thank you and best wishes in the new year.
