Social Media Part 1 — Obsession & Your State

As most of you know, we are love our social media. We are constantly on this site or that and access these sites from our phones and from work and home computers.

Hennessey digital did an extensive study on the matter and says we don’t just “love” our favorite social media sources, we are just plain obsessed with them.

As it stands now, North Carolina is the most social media obsessed state in the United States. Tennessee is second, Maine is third and New Hampshire is fourth.

Three PIA Western Alliance states — New Mexico, Washington and Oregon — are in the top 10. Hawaii is the least obsessed followed by the PIA Western Alliance state of Alaska.

Louisiana is the third.

Faceboook is on top in terms of popularity. The social media site has more than 151 million searches a month. Instagram ranks second with 30.4 million searches. Twitter gets 16.6 million hits a month and is in 3rd place.

TikTok is fourth with 7.48 million searches.

A Hennessey Digital spokesperson said Snapchat is the least popular out of the platforms studied. On average it only gets 1.83 million searches a month.

“Its interesting to see a variety of states from all four corners of the US in the top ten for social media obsession,” the spokesperson said. “Its also fascinating to see how popular Facebook remains nearly 20 years after it was founded, despite challenges from the likes of Snapchat and TikTok. The Meta social media platform is so popular that in many states it receives 10 times the searches of the next most popular social media site.”
