S&P Global Market Intelligence just released its analysis of mergers and acquisitions in 2022. M&A activity — the data shows — fell significantly in 2022. As of the end of November, there were 685 insurance broker deals. At the same point in 2021 the total was 1,150.
Insurance underwriter deals totaled 105. There were 184 of them in 2021.
The biggest transaction in 2022 was the $11.6 billion acquisition of Alleghany Corporation by Berkshire Hathaway. The second largest deal of the year happened in Juy when Brown & Brown picked up Global Risk Partners for $1.8 billion.
In the P&C, multiline sector and the value of deals fell significantly in 2022. The aggregate transaction value for 61 deals is $1.2 billion. In 2020 there were 81 deals with an aggregate transaction value of $12.8 billion.
