The NAIC is Seeking 2023 Consumer Representatives

As insurance professionals, we’re always being asked by the organizations that represent us to nominate other insurance professionals for this award or that. Here’s your opportunity to nominate one of your clients for an important — and very needed — position with the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC).

The NAIC is currently looking for consumers to help with its 2023 Consumer Participation Program.

PIA Western Alliance state of Idaho’s Dean Cameron is the current president of the NAIC. He said it was first set up in 1992 and promotes consumer representation and interaction with NAIC members by providing an opportunity for individuals to participate in NAIC meetings, provided they represent consumer interests and meet established criteria for appointment.

“A fundamental responsibility of every insurance commissioner is to protect our consumers. The NAIC recognizes the important role consumer representatives can play in achieving that responsibility,” Cameron said. “We look forward to applicants who are engaged, thoughtful, and are willing to share their diverse perspectives.”

Some people want to participate but cannot afford the expense of that travel. The NAIC has that covered. The NAIC website ( provides additional information about the NAIC’s Consumer Participation Program and describes the application process.

You probably know someone whod fit this perfectly. Urge them to apply.

The application deadline is 5:00 p.m. Central Time on Oct. 31, 2022. All applicants are required to complete the application, sign the Conflict-of-Interest Statement, and attach all documents requested. Applicants will be selected in December and notified prior to the Spring National Meeting in 2023.
