Oregon Session on Small Business Taxes Adjourns
On 5/21/18 the legislature passed Oregon Gov. Brown’s bill for a tax break for small businesses on a bi-partisan vote and adjourned in a single day.
More than 75 percent of the $11 million annual tax cut would go to sole proprietors who earn at least $200,000 a year, according to a forecast by legislative economists. They predict that although approximately 12,000 tax filers might be eligible, roughly half will take advantage of the benefit.

General Election Roster Set with One Exception
Click here for a list of those running for the Oregon State Legislature during the General Election in November 2018.
All but one race has been decided in the Primary Election. The hold-out is House District 53, where Republican Jack Zika holds an 11-count edge over challenger Ben Schimmoller. The final vote count won’t be released until June 4. And if the race remains as close, there would then be a recount that could leave the race in doubt for another week.
Insurance Education Program Begins
PIAO’s Insurance Education Program for New Legislative Candidates begins shortly after the Primary Election. We invite most candidates who will be running in the General Election to sit down with some of the insurance lobby to talk about our insurance industry and the issues we face. The format is one candidate per education session, not a big group meeting. We learn about them and their race, and what challenges they face. It is from these meetings that we decide which candidates will receive a donation from our political action committee.
This program has been running since 1989 and has been very successful. If you would like to participate when a candidate in your area is attending, please let me know. You’d be welcome!

Please make a contribution to the Professional Insurance Agents of Oregon Political Action Committee. It’s important that we support the Insurance Education Program with donations to those candidates who may have participated. It gives insurance agents a greater voice in the state legislative process.
Both corporate and individual donations are welcome. Please send a check today to:
