The addiction specialists, The Diamond Rehab did an analysis of Google data related to burn out. It scoured Google data for phrases and questions about work-related burnout.

The term used most in employee searches is “depersonalization.”

The most burned out state — according to Diamond Rehab’s research — is Massachusetts. In the last year, the monthly search for burned out terms for Massachusetts is 690 searches per 100,000 residents.

That translates into 27,800 searches a month for depersonalization alone.

The PIA Western Alliance states of Oregon, Washington and California rank 2, 3 and 5 respectively. Oregon has 16,000 searches per month for the word depersonalization.

Washington ranks fourth and in the last year had 28,800 searches for that same word. Number-five California’s sheer size gives it a much higher total for the keyword, depersonalization.

It had over 141,300 a month for that one.

The report’s authors said the numbers highlight the need for employers — and society in general — to recognize burnout and address it before it becomes a greater problem.

“This study underscores the importance of addressing burnout as a public health concern. Prioritizing self-care is extremely important. Allocating time in your schedule for activities that bring you relaxation is integral to combatting burnout,” the report notes. “Whether it's a hobby, exercise, or simply unwinding with a good book, taking time for yourself is crucial. Sometimes, simply sharing your feelings and concerns can provide valuable relief and guidance in overcoming burnout”
