California Enacts Employer Harassment Prevention Program

Could something like this new law come to your state?
Starting January 2, 2028, employers with five or more employees in California will be required to provide at least two hours of harassment prevention training to supervisors. Employees will be required to have at least one hour of training.
Both are required every two years.
New employees not in supervisory roles will be required to be trained within six months of being hired. New supervisors also must received that training within six months.
Here’s what the training must entail:
• Sexual harassment
• The prevention of abusive conduct
• Harassment based on gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation
The idea is to give employees “practical guidance” to recognize, report and confront speech that “vilifies, humiliates, or incites hatred.” This is on top of the California Fair Employment and Housing Act (FEHA) passed eons ago. It requires training on race, religion, creed, nationality, ancestry, sex, gender, gender identity, etc.
That’s a whole other bunch of training.
