California Wildfire Claims Over $22 Billion in 2025

The California Department of Insurance addressed wildfire claims in 2025 and said through November of 2025, insurers paid $22 billion in wildfire claims. This information is a compilation of data from admitted insurers, surplus lines carriers and California’s FAIR Plan.

American Property Casualty Insurance Association (APCIA) Vice President of State Government Operations Denni Ritter praised the hard work insurers have made to help make people whole. This is especially true of the damages done in the Eaton and Palisades wildfires near Los Angeles in January of last year.

"From the very beginning, insurers have been on the frontlines — providing immediate assistance, helping families secure temporary housing and supporting small businesses as recovery gets underway," she said.

Ritter said the CDI data shows insurers paid out $22.4 billion for 42,121 claims.
