California’s Holiday Season Flooding

Published January 6, 2026 at 11:48 AM · News Releases and Bulletins

On Monday, January 5th when this story is being written, five Northern California counties remained under flood watch. Another three inches of rain are possible this evening adding to the areas bombarded by rain storm after rainstorm since Christmas.

Flooding is rampant throughout the state.

In Southern California heavy rains have hit several counties. Flood watches were issued for mountain and valley communities in Ventura, Los Angeles, Orange, San Bernardino and Riverside counties.

Insurers are prepared to assist insureds and California Insurance Commissioner Ricardo Lara said the California Department of Insurance is also paying close attention to consumer needs.

“I am working to make sure residents in areas affected by recent wildfires know their rights in the event that they suffer further damage from debris flows,” Lara said in a news release. “Experts with my Department stand ready to help consumers with claims and questions about their policies."
