California’s Lara Still on the Hot Seat

California Insurance Commissioner Ricardo Lara is under investigation by the Fair Political Practices Commission. The commission has been looking into allegations that Lara used taxpayer dollars to take trips to exotic locales. A report by ABC7 in Los Angeles says Lara’s travel receipts show “tens of thousands of department funds” spent on trips like an African safari and a long stay at a five-star resort in Dubai.

The television station’s investigation said records are missing from several of Lara’s trips and noted a lack of transparency for the business purpose of those trips.

While the investigation is still ongoing, Fresno, California Republican Assemblyman David Tangipa is calling for Lara to step down.
