Controversy — UnitedHealthcare CEO Alleged Killer’s Defense Fund

This story does not allege that Luigi Mangione murdered UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson last year. Our take is the question of whether the public really hates health insurance companies that much?
If the $300,000 in donations to defend Mangione from a murder conviction for Thompson’s murder is any indication, then, yes, we really do hate our health insurance companies.
Mangione picked up the funds for his defense from the GiveSendGo platform via a group called the December 4th Legal Committee. That’s the date Mangione allegedly murdered Thompson. While the group emphasizes it does not condone violence, it believes everyone deserves a good defense.
And Mangione will need one. He’s facing federal charges where he’d possibly receive a death penalty sentence if convicted, and charges in New York where a life sentence is the conviction sentence.
The group says the money has come from over 10,000 people who gave an average of $30 each. His attorneys say he’ll take the money.
Mangione has pleaded not guilty to all charges.
