Disaster on the West Coast — The Atmospheric River to Continue

Published December 16, 2025 at 11:53 AM · News Releases and Bulletins

An atmospheric river hit the Pacific Northwest and Northern California late last week and heavy rainfall continued into last weekend. The rain overloaded rivers and streams causing flooding throughout Washington, Oregon and Northern California.

Washington State as hit the worst.

Then it dried out for a few days but another atmospheric river is expected to bring even more heavy rain to Washington, Oregon and California through this coming weekend.

This story is being written on Monday late afternoon. By now it’s probably raining again in Washington, Oregon and Northwestern California. Heavy snow is expected to hit the mountains of Oregon and Washington.

The next atmospheric river will hit on Thursday with the heaviest rain happening in Oregon. By Friday the river will shift to the South and wreak havoc in Northern California. It will deposit heavy rain as far South as San Francisco.

Meteorologists predict Washington getting most of the flood damage because it saw the most, and hardest, rain last week.

Overall, low-lying areas can expect an inch or rain. The coastal regions can expect one to two inches and the mountains will get two to three inches of snow. It will also be windy with gusts going as high as 55 mph.

There is even worse news. Meteorologists are predicting more atmospheric rivers in the near future.
