Expedia — The Best Days to Fly

Every year Expedia issues a guide to affordable flying. The report is called, Air Hacks and the 2026 version says you can save more money if you book your flights on Friday. In fact, you can save up to 14% over Sunday which is the day that will cost you the most if you’re booking a flight domestically or internationally.

Friday is the least expensive day to fly if you’re traveling internationally. It’s about 8% cheaper than Sunday.

The least expensive month to fly is August and it is the least expensive for international travel, too. Fares are 29% lower than December which is the most expensive month to fly.

Want to avoid crowds? Fly on Tuesday. Sunday is the busiest fly day.

The least busy month to fly anywhere is February. July is the busiest. As for individual days, the best days to fly are February 25th, March 4th and November 18th. The worst — and busiest airline days — are May 22nd, July 3rd and August 29th.

If you want to save the most money for international travel, book your flights 31 to 45 days in advance and save an average of $190. Though there are fewer options to get a seat, you can often save as much as $225 booking eight to 14 days in advance.
