Research from TransUnion finds 30% of Gen Z drivers say they have owned or driven an uninsured motor vehicle in the last year. So Gen Z drivers of all the generations are the most likely to drive uninsured.

17% of millennials admit to driving without insurance coverage

7% of Gen X admits to it

Only 1% of Baby Boomers will drive without

TransUnion’s Patrick Foy says the reasons for Gen Z driving without coverage are varied:

28% chose not to renew their coverage

26% say they couldn’t afford it

22% claim they forgot to pay

20% were dropped by their insurer

"We know affordability is a big challenge for Gen Z, and that certainly helps explain their lapses in coverage," Foy said. "However, we don't think that's the whole story, as more indicated that they simply chose not to renew their coverage than were unable to pay.”
