Health Insurance Costs in 2026 — Rising

Health insurance is expected to get a lot more pricy in 2026. Look for the largest increases in the individual coverage marketplace. The reasons vary but the two that top the list are prescriptions that are growing more expensive and increasing medical costs.
Larry Levitt the executive vice president of Kaiser Family Foundation (KFF) said people will be looking at paying more out of pocket for doctor visits and prescriptions. Another problem in the individual market is government support ending for some people.
“We’re in a period of uncertainty in every health insurance market right now, which is something we haven’t seen in a very long time,” Levitt said.
That uncertainty is most clearly seen in the individual coverage from the ObamaCare (the Affordable Care Act) where insurers are already noting price hikes of 20% for 2026. If the enhanced tax credits that help people buy that coverage isn’t extended by Congress those rates could go up to 75% more than they are now.
