Here it Comes — Your Annual Holiday Party

Published November 25, 2024 at 8:05 AM · News Releases and Bulletins

Company holiday parties are a tradition for a lot of firms. It’s a wonderful time to give your employees some love and let them know how much they are appreciated.

There are — however — some things to consider before throwing this year’s holiday bash. They are safety and liability issues that can pop up. AmTrust Financial’s Loss Control team recently published six tips to keep your holiday party safe, hassle free and fun.

Keep your event inclusive. Make sure ALL employees feel welcome. Personal background doesn’t matter. Invite everybody and let each employee decide whether they want to attend or not.

No employees should be pressured or forced to attend. Sometimes people and/or families have other plans that might conflict with the company party. And sometimes people just don’t want to go. So make sure it’s voluntary.

Make the celebration non-denominational and about celebrating the company’s success for the year.

Say no to the potluck. Sometimes companies will suggest everybody bring a dish, or a dessert. This brings the risk of food-poisoning, or food allergies. If you’re doing it at the office, hire a licensed caterer.

It’s a party and sometimes a party becomes more of a party than what a company might want. An open bar is okay but do make sure your employees aren’t overdoing their consumption of alcohol. Instead of letting employees serve themselves or mix their own drinks, hire a professional bartender.

Selfies. No. No. No. Employees are having fun and snapping smartphone pics like crazy while everyone’s having a great time. But sometimes a great time by an employee posted on social media can be embarrassing for that employee.

If you must take photos, create a company hashtag for the party where everyone can post and that a team member can monitor and edit.

And maybe most importantly of all, make sure no one can drive home under the influence. Hire transportation services for your employees and other guests to make sure everyone gets home safely.
