Hurricane Lala Slams into Hawaii — Clean Up in Progress

This story was written on Tuesday morning. By the time you read it, things will likely have changed. But for now, over the weekend the PIA Western Alliance state of Hawaii got hit hard by Hurricane Lala.
CBS News meteorologist Nikki Nolan said five areas in Hawaii received over 35 inches of rain. Maui County’s, Kapalua got hit with 48 inches. The hurricane is now a tropical storm and is headed west.
It is likely to gain strength as it moves westward.
Hundreds of homes were damaged, flash floods are currently occurring and some roads and bridges are being washed away. Several hundred people were hurt but at press time officials have not reported any deaths.
Search and rescue operations are in progress. Hawaii Gov. Josh Green said, ”Everyone is safe and healthy, but boy, [we have] a lot of work ahead.”
Over 116,000 homes and businesses are without power on the Big Island as trees have knocked power lines down.
