What state costs you the most in taxes, fees, etc. before you can net $100,000 per year in income. Surprise, and surprisingly, it’s not California or Hawaii. Nope. The financial firm, MoneyLion says the PIA Western Alliance state of Oregon is the only state in the U.S. where you have to earn close to $150,000 to net $100,000 a year.
The exact figure is $147,437.
This isn’t to let the PIA Western Alliance states of California and Hawaii off the hook. They rank numbers three and four respectively on the MoneyLion list.
To get its figures, MoneyLion looked at state and federal income taxes, Social Security and each state’s standard deductions.
The top 10 states where it takes the most income to net $100,000 per year:
1. Oregon — $147,437
2. Maryland — $146,486
3. Hawaii — $144,160
4. California — $143,879
5. Minnesota — $142,640
6. Maine — $142,261
7. Delaware — $142,232
8. New York — $141,072
9. Virginia — $140,978
10. Connecticut — $140,845
Someone in Oregon will lose about $1,900 per bi-weekly paycheck. The smallest amount taken out of your bi-weekly paycheck is $1,274, and the states where it takes the least amount of earnings to net $100,000 a year, are the PIA Western Alliance states of Washington, Nevada and Alaska and Florida, New Hampshire, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas and Wyoming.
