Cherry Data Signals did a survey on life satisfaction with 6,442 Americans 65 and over. The survey asked the participants to consider happiness as it relates to career, family, friendships, romance, life at home and the overall direction of their lives.
The results are very interesting.
The highest level of life satisfaction happened — on average — at age 52. By then most had built foundations considered essential to stability. They are close relationships, a loving partner or spouse, family ties, a nice home, a solid career and financial comfort that allows, among other things, travel, hobbies, time with loved ones and meals out.
• 75% said if forced to pick between the two, they’d choose love over wealth
• 79% said they’re happy with how their lives at work ended up
• 56% are content with the personal relationships they formed but they are not seeking more
When asked what brought them the most happiness:
• 34% said friendships and personal connections formed over the years
• 18% noted health
• 15% pointed to a life partner or a permanent romantic partner
• 14% said their career brought the most happiness
• 11% loved their home
Here is the peak life satisfaction age in the 10 individual PIA Western Alliance states:
• Alaska — age 55
• Arizona — age 53
• California — age 57
• Hawaii — age 54
• Idaho — age 50
