Mergers & Acquisitions — Quarter 1 of 2025 is a 4 Year Low

The first quarter of 2025 saw the lowest number of merger and acquisition deals in four years. There were 101 deals. The closest decline to this year’s first quarter drop was in 2024 when 125 deals were announced.
The value of the first quarter deals also fell. The aggregate total was $1.73 billion. That compares to $13.49 billion in the fourth quarter of 2024 and the $13.23 billion in the first quarter of 2024.
The largest completed deal was the purchase of Woodruff-Sawyer for $1.2 billion by Arthur J. Gallagher. The second largest deal was Ryan Specialty Holdings’ purchase of Velocity Risk Underwriters for $525 million.
