Nationwide on Your Side but Maybe Not Your Pet’s

Published August 6, 2024 at 2:40 PM · News Releases and Bulletins

This story has been floating around for a couple of weeks and we thought our pet owner agents ought to know what’s happening with Nationwide’s pet insurance.

For a long time, Nationwide’s slogan was “Nationwide is on your side.” That’s true of you but maybe not your pet. Between spring and summer of 2025, the company is going to drop 100,000 of its 1.2 million pet insurance policies.

Inflation in how much veterinarians are charging for services and treatment is the listed reason. The underwriting changes, Nationwide said, are critical to insuring a more stable pet insurance line of business.

Changes will depend on what state you’re in and they will not be because of your pet’s age, the breed of the pet, nor the number of claims turned into the company.

"As pet lovers ourselves, we understand the emotions connected to the protection of our family pets," Nationwide said. "We certainly empathize with the disappointment many of our pet families feel and will fully stand by the protections for which they have paid through the end of their current term.”
