The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) did a three-year study of autos with the highest number of fatalities. IIHS Vice President of Research Chuck Farmer said the minicar, the KIA Rio has the highest numbers. The message he — and the IIHS — want taken from the study is to avoid extremes when purchasing a vehicle.

As we know, small cars offer less protection than something larger. And bigger vehicles are more likely to cause serious harm in a crash.

”If you're the smallest vehicle on the road, one mistake could introduce you to a much bigger vehicle, and we all make mistakes," Farmer said and pointed out that muscle cars have high death rates because of aggressive driving. ”These cars that make you want to drive fast are risky to you and everybody else on the road."
