PIA National President Mike Becker Resigns — Search Committee Formed

PIA National CEO Mike Becker has resigned. Becker said he has accepted a position outside the insurance industry. Exactly where he’ll go and when will be announced soon.

Last week’s announcement said Becker will continue to head the association until April to ensure a smooth transition. In the meantime, PIA National President Rich Savino said PIA Immediate Past President Gerald Hemphill will head the search committee to find a successor.

“Mike has significantly raised PIA’s value by greatly expanding product offerings and services to benefit our members,” Savino said. “He has also expanded our association’s reach and built new relationships with carriers and technology companies. He is a real visionary — the innovation he brought to our organization will be felt for years to come.”

Becker has been instrumental in leading the association in new, creative, and very successful ways. Among them:

  • Becker created the PIA Technology Council in 2023 where technology leaders worked with PIA to provide ideas, input, and insights on technology to agents.
  • Becker championed the PIA Partnership, the association’s carrier council.
  • His outreach to large, multi-state mega agencies led to a change in PIA membership that embraces a broader swath of independent agencies being part of PIA.

“Our role is to provide tools and resources to help our independent agent members take on the daily challenges and become more successful and more profitable,” Becker said. “I will always believe in the independent insurance agency distribution channel and all the good, honest, hardworking people who are PIA. It is with the greatest sense of affection for PIA and all the wonderful people who have come to be friends that I embark on a new chapter in my career.”

Becker said this is not a decision that came easily.

“PIA is a tremendous organization — I'm very fortunate to have been here 17 years — and none of the excellent work we have been doing will stop,” he said. “One of the things I have loved most about the insurance industry is the people. I've cherished working with so many of you who are dedicated to making our industry a better place.”
