Politics & Your Office — The Coming Election

FlexJobs did a survey of office workers. The subject is the coming presidential election. Company spokeswoman, Toni Frana said two important bits of information came out of the survey.
First, 32% of the workers surveyed said the November election is going to have a “significant impact” on their careers. Secondly, 22% contend the coming election is causing them higher stress levels at work.
Men are more likely to think the upcoming results will be positive for their careers rather than negative.
"With the November election only weeks away and political discussions continuing to heat up, the political climate is understandably top of mind for most professionals,” Frana said. "And even though the majority of people do not believe the election will have an impact on their job directly, challenges like inflation and economic instability have heightened workers' concerns related to career scrutiny and financial goals."
Professionals surveyed think the political climate is having a negative impact on their workplace fit. They cited inflation-caused expense increases, economic instability, job security stresses and anxiety, financial stability, and difficulty finding new employment if a new job is needed.
- 60% say the company’s political stance is a big factor in whether they’ll work for a company
- 71% of working professionals say they would work for a company that has political stances they disagree with
In conclusion, the report reinforces the importance of an employee finding a workplace cultural fit.
"From considering how you feel about political talk at work to determining the ideal work environment for your individual needs, it's crucial to find a company that will support your personal and professional growth," the report said.
