Porch Pirates — It’s that Time of Year
Published December 9, 2025 at 1:48 PM · News Releases and Bulletins

Each holiday season Weekly Industry covers porch piracy. Though some reports say the numbers are dropping, it is still a serious economic problem.
Today’s story gives you the basics. Weekly Industry News will do a more in depth exploration of the problem in next week’s issue.
Close to a third of us — 28% — have had a package stolen from our porch or home entryway by porch pirates. That’s down from 31% two years ago but it’s still an unacceptable number.
These are the places that are most susceptible to porch piracy:
- Homes with porches less than 25 feet from the street
- 61% of packages taken are within 25 feet of a street or road
- 93% of packages left visible to a street or road are an open invitation
- 46% of all packages taken fall into that category
It’s not something that happens all that often but people are finding ways to get even. Next week Weekly Industry News will have an eye-opening, detailed story from a report issued by SafeWise on porch piracy.
