Ransomware — 2024 Quarter 1 Worst on Record

The cyber risk company, Corvus took a look at first quarter 2024 statistics and said it was the most active first quarter ever recorded. Corvus said there were 1,075 victims. It’s down from the record 1,278 victims in the third quarter of 2023.

However, that figure is 21% up from 2023’s first quarter.

Not much has changed as to who is being targeted and Corvus says 37.4% of the ransomware targets are in these industries:

• Information technology and services — 6.4%
• Construction — 5.9%
• Hospital and health care — 4.2%
• Machinery — 4.2%
• Law practice — 3.4%
• Automotive — 2.8%
• Retail — 2.8%
• Real estate — 2.7%
• Government administration — 2.6%
• Mechanical or industrial engineering — 2.5%
