Sedgwick Claims Services Management tracks recalled products from consumer products, foods and drugs, autos and auto products and medical devices. Oddly, the five products saw defects rising by 25% while there was a total decline in recalls around the U.S.
Overall, recalls totaled 125.4 million products led by 70.3 million in food and drink items alone. That’s a 232% over the first quarter of 2024. Recalls in pharmaceuticals hit 27.7 million and a 42.3% rise. It’s the third consecutive quarter that drug products have shot up.
Vehicles had a much better quarter with just 3.7 million vehicles being recalled. It’s the lowest number since the second quarter of 2012. There were 775 recalls compared to the 780 in the fourth quarter of last year.
Consumer products rose 90% to 101 recalls. That’s bad but the number of units impacted fell 43.7% to 4.6 million.
