Record Numbers of Young Adults Moving Back in with Parents

In 2025, a staggering 25.2 million adults under age 35 were living with their parents. These stats come from Realtor.com who says the numbers living at home now top what we saw during the peak of COVID.

Most are employed. In fact, among those 25 to 34, seven in 10 have jobs but wages just aren’t keeping up with inflation and allowing them to live on their own. Or so they say. This is an editorial opinion, but we have to wonder whether they can or can’t live on their own considering a large percentage of these young men and women are loaded with tattoos and have purchased smartphones costing $800 to $1,000.

But that’s a subject for another day.

One of the issues facing these young people is homeownership. With skyrocketing home prices, interest rates remaining high, as well as high property insurance rates and other costs, owning a home is out of reach. LendingTree says just 4 in 10 non-homeowners can afford a small starter home.
