Simulus AI took a look at AI jobs around the country and discovered the PIA Western Alliance states of California and Washington have the most AI jobs in the country. Steve Sanford is Simulus AI’s CEO and he said the demand for AI professionals is off the charts.
However, some states are doing better than others.
“States with strong government contracts, academic institutions or specific industry concentrations are carving out their own niches in the AI economy,” Sanford said. Here are the top states for AI jobs:
- California
Has 21,362 job postings — 3x more than any other state
The AI job demand score is 86.47
California is the nation’s top state for technology companies and AI start-ups are multiplying by the day. The average salary of $100,420 — however — is below what AI businesses in other states are offering.
- Washington
Ranks second with 4,748 postings — way below number 1 California
It has the highest per-capita availability at 0.122 jobs per 100,000 employed workers
Washington also offers the highest average salary at $115,244
"Washington combines Seattle's tech hub with a smaller workforce, to create more opportunities per person,” Sanford said. “Companies like Microsoft and Amazon drive significant AI investment, and they're willing to pay premium salaries to secure top talent.”
- New York has the second highest job postings at 7,833. The average salary is $111,320.
- Massachusetts also offers an average salary of $111,126.
- Virginia offers competitive salaries averaging $100,879.
