The PIA Western Alliance & Alcohol — Consumption High in Several States

We just passed St. Patrick’s Day. It’s one of those holidays where alcohol flows freely. While it is one of those holidays that leads to a lot of imbibing, it’s not the only one.

When it comes to alcohol consumption, the World Population Review says the U.S. ranks number 25 when it comes to drinking. The average American drinks about 2.35 gallons of alcohol per year.

Responsibility.org. looked at all the statistics and issued a report on the states with the most alcohol consumption. Three PIA Western Alliance states —Montana, Idaho and Nevada — are in the top-10. Here’s the list.

1. New Hampshire

DUI arrests in 2019: 5,116

2. Delaware

3. Nevada

Gallons of alcohol consumed annually per capita: 3.42

Alcohol-impaired driving fatalities in 2019: 87

Under 21 Alcohol-impaired driving fatalities in 2019: 7

DUI arrests in 2019: 10,984

4. North Dakota

5. Montana

Alcohol-impaired driving fatalities in 2019: 66

As we all know, too much drinking can lead to problems. Forbes did a study and said a DUI can up your auto insurance an average of 78%. That translates to $1,479 a year.

That’s for the people lucky enough to live through that kind of thing. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) says 28 people a day die from a collision involving alcohol.
