The PIA Western Alliance Congratulates Gerald Hemphill — PIA National’s New President

Gerald Hemphill, CIC, LUTCF is the new president of the National Association of Professional Insurance Agents (PIA National). He was installed at PIA National’s annual board meeting in San Diego, California.

Hemphill is from Richmond, Virginia. In his inauguration remarks, Hemphill said he inherits the leadership of an association that is on the rise. Talking about his speech at the board meeting on September 22nd, the new PIA president said, “PIA is constantly expanding its ability to be the preferred resource for independent agents. During my installation remarks in San Diego, I mentioned a quote that has made a significant impact on me and one that I keep at my desk, ‘Change is inevitable, Growth is optional.’”   

That’s why he noted the association is rising rapidly in membership and in advances that is driving membership. Hemphill noted that the PIA quickly adapted the the huge changes in business brought upon by COVID. The why of the statement is because of how the PIA  had already invested in technology upgrades.

“Our Association heads into 2023 in a position of strength, purpose and vision,” he said and then noted that position is accompanied by initiatives, programs, products and services.

Hemphill was President of the Professional Insurance Agents Association of Virginia/DC in 2010 and has served on the National Board of PIA since 2013. He was named the PIA of Virginia/DC Agent of the Year in 2012.

Hemphill was sworn in together with his four fellow national officers:

• *Ariel Rivera, MBA, CIC, CPIA, of San Juan, Puerto Rico, Vice President/Treasurer
• *Mark Suhr of Seward, Nebraska, CIC, CPIA, Secretary/Assistant Treasurer
• *Anthony “Tony” Curti, CIC, LIC, of Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, Immediate Past President.
