Washington’s Millionaires Tax Repeal Push — It’s Ballot Bound

Tax Repeal

Elon Musk has become the world’s first trillionaire. He’s now worth $1.1 trillion.

It immediately set tax the billionaires groups and individuals off. Posts started on social media and moved to mainstream media, and not so mainstream media, where many were many were interviewed.

The message was clear. Tax the rich.

The definition of the “rich” is all over the place but the message is real and it’s intense. Should we tax the rich more than they’re being taxed? A good question. And how the public feels about that may soon be tested in Washington State.

So far, 242,000 voters in Washington State have signed a petition to repeal the 9.9% millionaires tax enacted by the last Washington Legislature. Let’s Go Washington (LGW) spokesman Darren Littell said his group anticipates the petition signing will break the all-time signature record.

The 242,000 was done in just three weeks of signature gathering.

Littell says LGW is hoping to have over 400,000 signatures by July 2nd. The group only needs 308,911 valid signatures to qualify the initiative for the November ballot.

The enthusiasm is absolutely through the roof. People are coming out and signing this, and it's absolutely not partisan, despite what anybody else is trying to make this out to be,” Littell said.

This isn’t happening without pain. Littell said signature gatherers continue to face harassment and assaults.

Unfortunately, we're still getting people coming out, trying to vandalize, trying to harass gatherers, which is a misdemeanor and people can be arrested for it,” Littell said. So, again this is an opportunity for elected officials to show leadership, and they're just totally failing on it.”
