Wildfire — 2.6 Million Homes at Risk

The 2024 CoreLogic Wildfire Risk Report is out. The company says over 2.6 million homes in 14 states with a total reconstruction cost of $1.3 million are housed in moderate to very high-risk wildfire areas.
Most of the risk is — no pun intended — housed in California, Colorado and Texas. Over 70% of the nation’s at-risk homes are in those states. Three PIA Western Alliance states — California, Oregon and Arizona — are in the top 5.
- California: 1,258,748 homes at risk
- Colorado: 321,294 homes at risk
- Texas: 244,617 homes at risk
- Oregon: 129,567 homes at risk
- Arizona: 124,603 homes at risk
Ten of the top 15 most at risk metropolitan areas, and the top four in that category, are in California.
They are:
Los Angeles is first with 245,000 homes at risk. Their value is $186.6 billion. Riverside is second with 210,859 at moderate or greater risk of wildfire. San Diego is third with 138,000 homes and Sacramento is fourth with 100,814.
