Montana Insurance-Related Legislation: Week of April 21, 2025

Only three (3) insurance-related bills were up for hearings or readings this week:HB464.3HB533.3 and SB394.3

The Legislature is actively moving bills through second and third readings in both chambers.

A wide range of topics are being covered, and many bills are under consideration.

HB533.3 Update:

  • HB533.3, which was expected to pass, was returned to the House with Senate amendments.
  • It was passed on third reading in the House on Wednesday as amended and is now sent to enrolling.

Key Issues to Watch:

  1. Workforce Housing:
    • Multiple proposals aim to fund workforce housing in high tourism/resort areas, addressing a significant barrier to economic growth in these communities.
  2. Property Tax Relief:
    • SB90 and HB892 are leading bills offering property tax relief for residential property.  HB892 poses a potential risk to the insurance industry.
No hearings were scheduled for either bill this week.
